Candidates and NATO. Media mirror as a diagnosis

Has everyone already studied the presidential candidates in relation to annexation and occupation? Now let’s look at NATO.

Citizens of Ukraine make almost all their electoral decisions on the basis of information received from the media. The percentage of voters who have personal experience with presidential candidates is negligible, just as the percentage of people participating in campaign rallies is also small.

One of the problems of consuming information from the media is the short memory of the consumer. Nobody remembers what happened last week, a year ago, and even more so before the war. A good memory combined with modern technology is a very useful tool in assessing processes and our candidates.

Candidates and NATO in numbers

The figures of citizens’ support for Ukraine’s path to NATO are growing and have exceeded 60%. One might ask, what comes first? Information about the union itself, its own campaigns, interpretations of politicians or media research and analysis?

Since March 2015, the number of publications with references to NATO (in the context of Ukraine) on more than 10,000 sites has amounted to 878,484. The maximum bursts were on the dates of the NATO summits, however, the total number is fairly evenly distributed over the days, and the strength of the resonance is estimated at 6 points out of 10 possible. Highest-performing story topics of the day:

09/22/2015 – 2543 publications mentioning NATO, 1151 of them about the main story – Stoltenberg: Ukraine can count on the practical support of NATO;

07/09/2016 – 3356 publications on NATO, 1662 disseminations of the story – Warsaw Declaration: NATO member countries will strengthen support for Ukraine;

07/10/2017 – 3459 publications, 872 disseminations of the story – Poroshenko asks NATO to create a fund to support the Ukrainian military; 655 reprints of the story – NATO Secretary General: The countries of the alliance are negotiating the supply of weapons to Ukraine;

07/12/2018 – 3533 publications, 1466 story disseminations – Poroshenko: We will not ask anyone whether to become a member of NATO or not;

02/07/2019 – 2103 publications, 1351 times the story was published – Ukraine officially fixed its course towards NATO and the European Union; The media of the Russian Federation that day disseminated the story (31 times in total) – They crossed out the foundation on which they were created: Solovyov called the decision on NATO the end of the state of Ukraine; pro-Russian Ukrainian politicians already lit up 12 times with the plot – Rabinovich: The authorities do not even think about ending the war. And she is simply afraid of Medvedchuk.

What do presidential candidates look like in this picture? Anti-scientific answer – scary 🙂

Zelensky, Gritsenko and Boyko have mentioned NATO together as many as 17,030 times since March 2015, which is 1.9% of the total number of publications. Well, or they didn’t give the media a reason to notice their content. Tymoshenko provided 14,824 publications, or 1.7% of the total, and throughout the years she did not bypass this issue. At the same time, 30% of what was said falls on the pre-election quarter of 2019. Poroshenko was mentioned together with NATO 243,693 times, or 27.7%. Such activity is logical for the incumbent president of a belligerent country and for the aspirations of all progressive forces to join NATO.

Note that during this period, the database contains 3,601,986 documents mentioning Poroshenko. Those. along with NATO, the incumbent president was mentioned by 6.77%, which in the overall picture does not say anything about the abuse of the topic of Ukraine’s integration into the Euro-Atlantic Union.

The table clearly shows the scale of Zelensky’s and Boyko’s numbers. It is just as perfectly clear that they woke up, as in other studies – only for the elections. And they managed to say about 70 percent more about NATO than in all previous years. We are not talking about the positive or negative background of such materials. They just didn’t exist. And that’s what’s important to remember no matter what you’re told now.

The graphic display of the above figures even more clearly shows who and how woke up in an important strategic issue of the Ukrainian path. And it’s not the graphics package’s fault that the three graphics of Zelensky, Gritsenko and Boyko most of all resemble a middle finger standing up in the desert. Such it is, the deviation from the average number of publications over time 🙂

Proper communications

The presence of one’s own information policy, interaction with the media and the ability to communicate with society do not always depend on the fact that someone does not let someone go somewhere. Modern technologies allow one, separately taken person to be both a TV channel, a newspaper, and a radio station. And compete with classical media. Ukrainian elections will never be the same again. Experienced politicians should learn to be modern. And citizens should learn to distinguish between holograms of virtual heroes and responsible speakers. This will come in handy very soon on a much larger scale – parliamentary autumn has already begun.
